9 Fourth of July Activities to Do With the Family

One of America’s highly anticipated celebrations is finally here, and we know you can’t wait for all those fun Independence Day parades, fireworks, and family vacations!

Indeed, Fourth of July weekends are always packed with family summer activities. But if your family is one of the few who doesn’t have anything planned (yet), we’ve rounded up the perfect ideas to get you started!

Celebrate America’s birthday with these nine Fourth of July activities and treat the gang to a ray of sunshine and something memorable this holiday!

Bake them some patriotic desserts

Independence Day isn’t complete without some red, white, and blue desserts, so start your day with PATRIOTIC baked treats! After baking, let your family join in on the festive decorating– or take it a notch higher by letting them compete in a friendly bake-off!

Go camping in your backyard

Campfire and s’mores are essential to a fun 4th of July celebration, and if you can’t make it to a “real” campsite this year (most of them are booked as early as March!), try backyard camping instead! Set up a tent (along with a great family cookout!) and cap off the get-together with scary stories around the campfire!

Get that backyard barbecue going

Missing out on a grill session this Independence Day is like not having any sweets on Halloween– it’s just NOT POSSIBLE! So get that grill fired up for some great eats!

Hot dogs and burgers are essential, but don’t forget the tasty appetizers and festive drinks to cool off in the heat!

Get the ball rolling with a craft sesh

If you have little ones at home, get them pre-occupied with a fun holiday craft session! Check the web for some craft ideas or make ones that can double as a great Fourth of July decor!

Have a Fourth of July backyard picnic

Most people prefer to spend Independence Day outdoors, so even if you don’t have the time (and the budget!) to plan a weekend trip, you can bring your food and drinks to your backyard as an alternative! Your family will appreciate the sunshine AND get a good meal in! That sounds like a fair deal, right?

Engage in outdoor activities

Don’t use the holidays as an excuse to lounge around in your PJs the whole day! Ask the whole family to get active outdoors– go for a hike, a long walk, or even a family bike ride this Independence Day. Using red, white, or blue bikes is a bonus!

Light up the sparklers

If you can’t make it to a fireworks display this Independence Day, light up some sparklers at home instead! Aside from being a much safer, hand-held alternative, they make for a fantastic photo op! The kids will love them for sure!

Watch a parade

Get busy on the community board and find out when your local July 4th parade will kickoff. These fun parades are essential on any holiday, most especially during Independence Day! Don’t forget to check for fireworks shows, too!

Set up a Fourth of July movie marathon

Get those Independence Day-themed films rolling and movies that focus on America’s history and American trailblazers! There’s no better way to celebrate any holiday than with a family movie marathon! We’re talking Hidden Figures, National Treasure, and, of course, Independence Day.
